This Morning hit by 122 complaints after guest says Covid jab 'doesn't work'

A This Morning guest has sparked complaints to OfCom after saying the coronavirus vaccine "doesn't work".

Beverley Turner sparked nearly 100 objections for her comments, which also included a jibe at Prime Minister Boris Johnson's sex life.

The journalist clashed with the ITV daytime show's host Dermot O'Leary when she said: "It does not stop you catching or passing on the virus."

A clearly frustrated Dermot told her "it does" during the fiery exchange, which aired on Tuesday's episode.

122 complaints were made about the segment, but 27 of them supported Beverley, saying Dermot and guest Matthew Wright were in the wrong.

Dermot had said: "The finest minds of science have - in an extraordinary short amount of time - come up with this vaccine. It's proven it's working, statistically. Why are you so cynical?"

"We have no long-term data," Beverley replied.

He responded: "We don't have a chance to have long-term data because we have this virus that's killing people around the whole world.

"We don't have that luxury, surely. Why are you so sceptical about the whole thing?"

Beverley said: "Because of the fact, there's a 99.8 per cent survival rate from Covid-19. The average age of death is 82."

Matthew called her "massively irresponsible" for making her comments.

She also was asked for her opinion on the marriage of Carrie Symonds and Boris Johnson.

She replied: "Every time I see them I just think: 'She has to have sex with Boris Johnson.'"

Ofcom received 53 complaints about Beverley's comments about the vaccination, The Sun reported.

There were 27 complaints about Dermot and Matthew's remarks and 27 about Beverley's comments about the Prime Minister.

13 people also complained about Dermot's co-host Alison Hammond saying she is too scared to get the vaccine.

Alison had said: "Professor, I'm so sorry to have to go back to the whole child thing, but I'm so worried about the vaccine myself because I really don't want to get a blood clot.

"I've been talking about it the whole time, I don't want to get a blood clot.

"I don't want to die because I'm really enjoying this job and everything, it's absolutely amazing."

She also said she was worried about her 15-year-old son Aiden falling ill after getting the jab, adding: "So if I'm really worried about myself, I'm even more worried about my son.

"Can you guarantee he's not going to get ill if he takes that vaccine?

"Our children are the most precious things in the world and I just don't want him to get ill from taking the vaccine if he wasn't really going to get Covid anyway."

The Mirror has contacted ITV and a rep for Beverley Turner and is awaiting comment.
