This Morning chef Phil Vickery is embarking on mission to find Britain’s Best Tart

Marriage-split Phil Vickery has landed a major new slot on This Morning.....discovering Britain’s Best Tart.

He admits being amused by his new quest.

Phil, 59, will travel the length and breadth of the nation to cast his eye over the Bakewell tart, the Manchester tart, the Gypsy tart and finally the Yorkshire curd tart.

Phil - a firm favourite on This Morning for 21 years -will then return to the kitchen to create his own version of each tasty tart.

The TV chef, who split from wife of 20 years Fern Britton in January, said he thought TV bosses were joking when they first posed the idea.

“A couple of weeks ago on This Morning I did an almond tart and I hadn’t done a lot of baking on the show for a while, but Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby loved it and said it was really lovely.

The TV chef will visit different parts of the UK looking for yummy tarts (ITV)

"On the back of that I was asked by my bosses ‘We’d like you to do a thing on Britain’s traditional tarts’ to which I laughed at first and then they explained further ‘the culinary version'.”

One tart in Bakewell kept him up all night.

“It was around 2,000 calories,” he says. “I tried one and I struggled to sleep that night.”

Britain’s Best Tart will air on ITV’s This Morning from Tuesday 27th October at 10am.
