This Morning auctioneer thrilled to see sewing machine with receipt from 1886

Auctioneer Philip Serrell was shocked to see a sewing machine with the original receipt from 1886 on This Morning today.

The TV auctioneer appeared on the show to value a variety of viewers' items as he released his new book.

Several viewers showed off their old family heirlooms or charity shop finds, but it was one viewer's sewing machine that got the expert most excited.

Debbie from Kent said that she's been cleaning out her uncle's home after he died of covid last year.

Debbie said that her uncle lived in his childhood home and that he hadn't cleared anything out when her grandma passed away.

She told Philip and hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield that they had found lots of items as they were clearing out.

There were gas masks, stamp collections and a Singer sewing machine complete with the receipt from 1886.

Phillip said that he loved the item and said: "I think that's absolutely lovely, I look at things like that and wonder if sewing machines that we see today in 140 years will be and look as collectable as that does.

"The fact you've got the original receipt is fantastic, make sure you keep the two together.

"The great thing about these is that a lot of these when they weren't valuable have the tops taken off them and they were converted into sort of BBQ tables outside, so the fact you've got it all together is great.

"It's probably worth £100-£200 but it's really, really lovely, I love that."

Holly Willoughby agreed and said: "It's gorgeous, I hope you enjoy it."
