This might be the most pointless gate you've ever seen

People have been left a bit baffled by this gate in the Fforestfach area of Swansea .

Normally a gate is there to provide access that wouldn't normally be possible, because of a fence, wall or some other barrier.

But the function and purpose of this gate is rather more questionable.

The gate in Pentregethin Road is completely surrounded by open land. Even more bizarrely, it's padlocked, presumably for extra security!

Becca Wagstaff, 42 from Portmead said "Random is definitely the right word. My fiancee saw it first and pointed it out so I took a picture. I was just baffled because it's a gate, just a gate and then behind it a set of wooden steps going nowhere.

"I'm sure there's good reason for it but just how it is, I was thinking - what on earth?"

A number of drivers passing the gate have also questioned its purpose.

Emma Dallimore commented on the image saying: "I saw this yesterday and I couldn't help but laugh."

Another resident, Claire Perkins, was quick to point out that the bizarre gate also had a padlock on it, joking: "The best thing is the gate has a lock on it, sorry you can't come in as it's locked!"

The unusual gate is located behind the Fforestfach Retail Park in Pentregethin Road (Google Maps)

People are being urged to switch off their engines on this busy road:

Signs urging drivers to turn off their engines have appeared on Swansea's busiest road

Despite attempts, Wales Online has been unable to identify the owner of the gate, or discover why it's there, and if there is more to come.

So, for now, it will have to remain a mystery, unless anyone can tell us differently? Please email postnews@trinitymirror.com if you can shed any light on this.
