This metal blob on a railway bridge is actually a house, and you won't believe what it looks like inside

Made of metal and curving out from beneath a 19th century viaduct, this super modern structure doesn't even look like it could be a family home.

But that's exactly what it is, deceptively concealing 1,600 sq ft of floor space and a 16ft-high ceiling inside its unorthodox walls.

Archway Studios is nestled beneath one of London's historic viaducts, with an industrial steel exterior to blend into its surroundings.

On the market for just shy of a million pounds - £999,999, to be exact - it sounds like it could be pricey for a property below a train track.

But the award-winning house has slender steel foils cocooning the entire house, creating a protective acoustic shell.

The two-bedroom house has a large living space with a vaulted ceiling in the railway arch.

That's linked to a three-storey atrium, with the other rooms adjoining. It's both a family home and a photography studio at the moment, and there's a study too.

It won the prestigious House of the Year at the New London Architecture Awards in 2013.

Rightmove’s property expert Miles Shipside said: “This property is a marvellous feat of architecture. It feels like one of London’s best-kept secrets and has a presence of other-worldliness.

“The outside of the building completely betrays the craftmanship and space of the interior – it’s almost like stepping into Doctor Who’s Tardis. It really is a special building."

This property is listed for sale with The Modern House, and you can see full details here .
