This McDonald's branch is now open for walk-in takeaways - with 8 key changes

The next phase of McDonald's gradual reopening is underway with the fast food chain today announcing restaurants that are offering a walk-in service once again.

In the last week, the burger giant has reopened hundreds of drive-thrus and resumed McDelivery after closing in March when the coronavirus lockdown descended.

In the latest move customers will be able to walk into 11 branches themselves and pick up food as part of a pilot scheme.

However, the food must be taken away and can't be eaten inside.

From today (Wednesday June 17) McDonald's will be welcoming back customers to Roadchef motorway service stations around the country. The closest to Nottinghamshire is in Derbyshire at Tibshelf near junction 28/29 of the M1 northbound.

McDonald’s UK chief executive, Paul Pomroy, said: "Following a closed test in London last month, I am pleased to confirm that we will begin reopening for takeaway and click and collect.

"We’re taking our time to get this right, reviewing our processes before we gradually roll-out to high streets, towns and city centres from 24 June onwards."

He added: "We’re taking our time to get this right, reviewing our processes before we gradually roll-out to high streets, towns and city centres from 24 June onwards."

To keep customers and employees safe, restaurants will look a little different to what people are used to with these key changes:

  • Clear signposting and floor-markings to create a one-way system around restaurants for customers and delivery partner couriers
  • Limiting numbers in restaurants in line with social distancing – this will vary depending upon the restaurant size and lay-out
  • Customers asked in only when space becomes available
  • Customers will be asked to sanitise their hands at a cleaning station
  • Fewer self-order screens switched on - which will be sanitised "at least every 30 minutes". Customers can also order via the My McDonald’s app
