This magical street in Edinburgh is the real-life Diagon Alley - according to Google maps

Edinburgh has long been associated with Harry Potter, credited with inspiring J.K. Rowling in a number of instances, it has kept many fans flocking to the capital.

From The Elephant House Café, the birthplace of the Potter tales, to Greyfriars Kirkyard, home to Tom Riddle's (HE-WHO-MUST-NOT-BE-NAMED) gravestone, there are more than a few stops on the capital's Potterhead trail.

The author left her final mark on this city in a room in the Balmoral Hotel where she scribbled a message after finishing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - the room is now The Rowling Suite, complete with a brass owl door knocker.

And, as if by magic, even Google maps recognises this city's undeniable connection to the world of witches and wizards, and puts the location for the real-life Diagon Alley in Edinburgh's Old Town.

A fact true Potterheads are probably already aware of, if you type Diagon Alley into Google maps it will direct you to Victoria Street - even though the Diagon Alley plaque and mural are actually on Candlemaker Row.

It's not hard to see why the Old Town Street, with it's multi-coloured building, winding cobbled street and secret stairways, would seem like the perfect place to pick up a wand or broomstick.
