This Leeds Poundland is now selling fresh and frozen food as part of pilot scheme

A Poundland in Leeds is stocking fresh and frozen food as part of a nationwide trial by the bargain chain.

The shop, on Lands Lane, Leeds city centre, is now selling hundreds of everyday items from fresh potatoes to frozen fish.

It will be one of the first Poundlands to take part in the pilot scheme following a trial at a store in Ashbourne, Derbyshire.

According to Poundland, the fastest selling foods in the Ashbourne shop, since the pilot began three weeks, included Magnum ice creams, Attack A Snacks, Sutherland’s sandwiches and Snackster’s doner kebabs.

And customers have been snapping up top fresh foods brands such as Ginsters, Cathedral City, Lurpak, Muller yoghurts and Rustlers cheeseburgers. Frozen products include Sharwood’s and Bisto ready meals, Birds Eye cod fillets, plus brands such as Aunt Bessies, McCain and Youngs.

Fresh, seasonal vegetables, such as potatoes and carrots, have also shifted.

“People in Ashbourne have really warmed to the pilot,” said Poundland trading director Tim Bettley. “Our shoppers come to us for value for money and they love the convenience of being able to put fresh and frozen goods in their Poundland basket.

“The blizzard of prices on offer at other retailers can be very confusing and customers really appreciate our simple pricing and the great deals on offer.”
