This Justin Fields dime to Allen Robinson had shades of Russell Wilson to Sidney Rice

Bears quarterback Justin Fields showed everyone why last week’s brutal outing was an outlier and reminded them just exactly what he’s capable of in the NFL.

Fields was lauded for his deep ball accuracy coming out of Ohio State, and it was on display Sunday against the Lions. Fields completed five passes of 15-plus yards, including some absolute dimes to receivers Darnell Mooney and Allen Robinson.

One of those throws was a perfectly-placed 27-yard pass to Robinson down the right sideline, which Robinson was able to haul in between two defenders.

One user replied Fields’ throw to Robinson had shades of Russell Wilson to Sidney Rice during Wilson’s rookie season. And when someone put the two videos next to each other, it’s hard to unsee the uncanny resemblance.

Fields had the kind of game many were expecting in his first NFL start, not the disaster it wound up being. That was helped by offensive coordinator Bill Lazor taking over play-calling duties and utilizing Fields’ strengths, and it translated to what actually looked like a competent offense.

While Matt Nagy said Andy Dalton would be the starter when healthy, that was before Fields showed exactly how he can open up this offense. After the game, Nagy didn’t reiterate that Dalton is the starter when healthy. It’s no guarantee that Fields will be the starter against the Raiders, but it’s a step in the right direction.
