This is why the Thai Lounge in Cardiff has closed suddenly

A popular Cardiff restaurant has closed for a major refurbishment.

There had been concerns that The Thai Lounge was shut for good, but the owners have said that it is only temporary.

The restaurant has been a popular go-to in Whitchurch since it opened around a decade ago and is a former winner in the Echo Food and Drink Awards.

A message on the restaurant's phone line says: "Thank you for calling the Thai Lounge. We are now closed for a major refurbishment and will re-open in September.

"Keep an eye on our social media and we will hopefully be opening in the first week of September. The number will remain the same, and thre will be familiar faces. We look forward to seeing you in the future."

Customers had raised concerns on social media that the restaurant, on Merthyr Road, had closed for good  after The Dragon Inn takeaway in the Cardiff suburb closed its doors for the last time.
