Why the police plane was circling over Nottingham last night

Police have confirmed why a plane was flying back and forth over the county last night.

There were reports of an aircraft circling over Nottinghamshire until around 10.30pm on Tuesday, October 13.

A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Police said searches were being carried out for a missing person and the force was helping to find a suspect in relation to a vehicle offence.

One reader said: "The police plane has been circling over the Nottingham area for the last several hours this evening."

A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Police said: "NPAS, which includes police helicopter and aerial search capabilities, was called out on a number of incidents overnight including to help with a missing person search and help the pursuit of a suspect in relation to a vehicle offence."
