This is why Rainbow Casino in Bristol city centre was evacuated

Dozens of people were evacuated from a casino in Bristol city centre last night.

A fire alarm sounded just before 2am, causing the Rainbow Casino on Explore Lane, Millennium Square, to be cleared suddenly.

Allan Griffiths, one of the directors of the group, told Bristol Live the evacuation was just a precautionary measure and no customers were in danger.

He said: "At 1.56am this morning the fire alarm for the whole building was activated.

"The duty manager made the correct decision to evacuate our part of the building due to the fact that there was no issue identified within the casino.

"The casino was evacuated in less than four minutes by the team due to the professional manner it was conducted and the rigorous training we carry out on a regular basis for such an eventuality.

"On contacting site security at 2.05am it transpired a smoke detector in another business within the complex had been activated.

"We were allowed to reenter the building safely at 2.10am as the activation was a false alarm.

"I apologise to all our customers who were affected however their safety is of paramount importance at all times and the alarm was beyond our control.

"I must reiterate that the customers were in no danger at any time and we evacuated the casino as a precautionary measure."
