This is why Primark in Swansea had to be evacuated today

Shoppers in Swansea had to be evacuated from one of the biggest city centre stores on Thursday.

Large crowds of customers visiting Primark at lunchtime on Thursday, July 25, were forced to leave the store in St Mary's Square.

Primark has confirmed that a customer inside the store had to be taken to Morriston Hospital after falling.

The fire alarm was then accidentally set off inside the three-floor store at around 12pm, resulting in shoppers having to leave  and wait outside.

Members of staff also had to leave as they congregated outside New Look opposite the store.

A spokesman for Primark said: "A customer was taken to hospital on Thursday, July 25 after a fall at our Swansea store.

"During the incident, a fire alarm was inadvertently activated by another customer, and the store was briefly evacuated.

"We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused."

A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said: "We were called on Thursday, July 25 at approximately 12.27 pm to reports of a person needing medical assistance at Primark in central Swansea.

"We responded with one ambulance and one patient was transported by road ambulance to Morriston Hospital, Swansea."
