This is why police were in Spinningfields this afternoon

A large emergency service response was prompted following an incident in Spinningfields this afternoon.

Eye-witnesses reported seeing police, fire crews, and paramedics on Left Bank, near to the River Irwell at around 12.30pm on Thursday.

"A lot of fire engines and ambulance behind the Dockyard pub," one witness said on Twitter.

It is understood that police were called to a domestic premises.

Pictures from the scene show a police car stationed on Left Bank on Thursday afternoon.

The incident was near to a number of popular restaurants in the city's financial centre - which is home to spots such as the Ivy, 20 Stories and the Refinery.

Emergency services were spotted close to the River Irwell, which runs through the city centre.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police confirmed that they first called to the scene to reports of a concern for welfare.

No serious injuries were reported and no arrests were made, they added.

No other details about the incident have been revealed.
