This is why police were in a Walton street early this morning

A residential street in Walton was sealed off by police early this morning after someone thought they saw a firearm .

An armed response and a dogs team were sent to Wilburn Street, off County Road, at around 1am, with a house being surrounded by police .

It followed reports of an earlier disturbance on County Road.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "We can confirm that armed police were called to Walton last night, Saturday 13 July.

"At around 11.45pm, a disturbance was reported on County Road, leading to the alleged sighting of a firearm on Wilburn Street.

"Officers attended and a containment was placed on a premises while enquiries were carried out but no weapons were found or offences identified.

"The incident was stood down and further enquiries will be carried out into the circumstances of this incident."
