This is why police have been searching a Salford park today

Police officers have carried out a mass search of a park in Little Hulton today.

Peel Park was swarming with uniformed officers searching bushes and woodland areas on Saturday morning.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed that officers were looking for knives and other weapons as part of a planned operation.

It is understood that a number of knives were found during the sweep.

A number of police vehicles were spotted at the park early on Saturday morning.

Officers were pictured searching bushes and wooded areas with rakes.

Operation Scholar is a knife crime initiative looking into hidden knives and weapons in Salford.

Posting later on GMP Swinton and Little Hulton Facebook page, the force said: "Your Neighbourhood Policing team in Little Hulton were out early this morning searching a number of local parks in the Little Hulton area to search for knives and other weapons concealed in public spaces.

"As a result the team who were supported by specialist search officers located three knives in Peel park which have now been disposed of.

"If you have any concerns or information about knives being stored in your community please get in touch with us on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers."
