This is why police closed the A38 in both directions today

Police closed the A38 in both directions due to a concern for welfare in Patchway.

Avon and Somerset Police were called to a bridge in the area at around 3:40pm today, May 20.

The incident caused gridlock across the city after the busy route was shut for more than an hour.

Banned driver was behind wheel when van crashed into 90-year-old woman's home and killed her

A police spokesperson said: "We were called at 15.40 to reports of a concern for welfare of a woman on a footbridge.

"The road was closed in both directions while emergency services worked to resolve the incident safely.

"The matter has now been resolved safely and with no injury. The road has been reopened."

Most people who are thinking of taking their own life have shown warning signs beforehand. These can include becoming depressed, showing sudden changes in behaviour, talking about wanting to die and feelings of hopelessness.

These feelings do improve and can be treated. If you are concerned about someone, or need help yourself, please contact the Samaritans on 116 123.
