This is why Nottingham's pink lady is drawing a lot of attention during lockdown

Nottingham's very own pink lady said her house has been the centre of attention during lockdown after people have spent more time walking around their area.

Retired Kathy Charles, 64, decided to transform her two-bedroom home in Whiting Avenue in Toton six years ago.

And what began as a lick of pink paint on the outside of her home is now a full blown obsession where everything must be in that colour.

The former Players cigarette machine operator loves the area and never plans to leave her pink palace.

Her mum, aged 92, dad, 84, and brother all live on the street - and she was born in the house adjacent to where she lives now.

She has been looking after them during the coronavirus pandemic and even visits her supermarket with her pink shopping bags.

Her bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, living room, and her downstairs loo are all painted pink.

Even her wardrobe is decked out with pink dresses, skirts, t-shirts, cardigans, handbags and shoes.

But the only thing she is yet to purchase that is pink - which she intends to do - is a pink face mask for when she goes shopping.

She said her house has gained a lot of attention during the coronavirus pandemic with people stopping to stare at it and take photographs.

She has even invested in some pink flamingos in her windows during lockdown.

She told Nottinghamshire Live: "It's all good in the pink house. It was very depressing at the start. I think everyone felt low.

"When I walked my dog down the street, everyone crossed over, it was like you had the plague."

Kathy also loves animals - she has 15 pet spiders, a dog called Ozzy after her favourite singer, a tortoise called Eric, and a couple of canaries, Kath and Sid.

She said: "When I go out with my dog, I go on the corner of my house and admire it. I have pink flamingos in my window and they look absolutely gorgeous.

"People look at my house and it makes them smile. I catch a lot of people on the corner taking pictures of my house. Most people say 'it brightens up their day.'

"I think it's because it is very miserable at the moment.

"There were a couple of workmen over the road who came to my house and they were saying 'how fantastic it looks.'

"When they saw me in all pink clothes they could not believe it.

"Having a pink house certainly helps towards this virus - it just cheers me and everyone up who sees it."
