This is why more than 1,500 properties were affected by power cut today

A wave of blackouts has hit properties across Patchway today (May 2).

Electricity distributor Western Power said 1,740 buildings were left without power following a high-voltage incident at 1.12pm.

Properties in the BS34 area of South Gloucestershire were affected by the power cuts.

Those in the area reported traffic lights going out as a result of the disruption.

A spokesperson for the distributor said: “It was caused by a third party. Someone working in the area of BS34 went through one of our underground cables.

“At 1.51pm we were able to switch our customers to an alternative supply of power.”
