This is why McDonald's tell their customers the ice cream machine is broken

A former employee of McDonald's has finally revealed a long awaited question that people have been desperate to know about for years gone by.

Taking to Twitter, the worker shared why McDonald's customer are often told they can't get a McFlurry or milkshake due to the machine being off or broken.

According to the ex-employee it is often the case the machines are working perfectly fine but staff just don't want to clean them - which he adds is a time consuming process, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Back in October, Twitter user @will_doyle said: "Btw, I used to work in McDonalds. The ice cream machine was never broke, it just takes 3 hours to clean so we used to say it was broke so we didn't have to serve you lot. Cheers x"

And he isn't the only former worker who says this is the case either.

@MichaelZyzzi said: "As an ex McDonald's employee, the ice cream machine was always working it just took too long to clean it so we used to tell everyone it was broken hahaha."

In response to the tweet, one user asked: "I don't understand why you couldn't say it's being cleaned or maintenanced."

Another former worker @ikariarunner replied and said: "because people don't understand that you can't use it at all when its on a cleaning cycle ... they just think you're wiping it down or something, its easier to say its broken."

Earlier this week, McDonald's used its official Twitter account to reply to a customer who was told the machine was down during a recent visit.

McDonald's replied: "Hi, Nene. Our shake and soft-serve ice cream machines undergo heat treatment cycles every 24 hrs—they're disassembled, sanitized and cleaned every 14 days. We’re sorry for any inconvenience."

In other replies to customers, McDonald's suggests though who want an ice cream or milkshake should check with their local branch before visiting to save any disappointment.
