This is why dozens of police officers suddenly rushed into Trinity Leeds on Saturday afternoon

Shoppers going about their business at Trinity Leeds on Saturday afternoon were shocked by the sudden arrival of 'about 30 or 40' police officers right in the middle of the shopping centre.

At around 3:30pm, dozens of officers in hi-vis jackets rushed into the main atrium of the shopping centre in Leeds city centre as thousands of people stopped to see what was going on.

Kenny Rosenoern was in Trinity Leeds at the time of the incident. He told LeedsLive : "I walked into the centre from the Marks & Spencer entrance and there were four officers chasing a group of young guys.

"It obviously attracted a lot of attention and turmoil."

However, the initial wave of officers were quickly joined by dozens more as shocked shoppers stopped to see what had happened.

West Yorkshire Police has confirmed that they were called to reports of a disturbance and arrived to find a group of males fighting.

They were asked to leave the shopping centre, although a spokesperson for the force said 'it was nothing of any real concern'.

"I’d say there were about 30 or 40 officers in total," said Kenny. "They were leading about 20 youths out of the centre - girls and boys.

"I overheard a female office tell an elderly lady that it was a group of youths who had been scrapping."

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
