A loud bang was heard throughout Llanelli and beyond on Thursday evening.
Hundreds of residents headed to social media to see if others had heard the noise that many said sounded similar to a "massive bomb".
Residents throughout the town and as far as Pembrey and Burry Port reported hearing the blast at around 4.30pm.
Ruth White speculated: "Maybe they've detonated a WW2 bomb. I've heard lots of explosions over the last few months."
Stephen Hughes reported hearing the noise in the Stebonheath area as he said he "thought someone banged the front door".
While Kevin Rees heard the noise in Llangennech , and Roger Thomas claimed his "house shook" in Pwll.
People from Bynea, Llwynhendy, Bigyn, Penyfan, Machynys and Morfa also claimed to hear the bang, with some speculating that it may have come from an explosion.
According to flight planning maps, explosions have been carried out on Whiteford Sands, in Gower, since Monday, October 28.
The demolition of explosives have been taking place between 8am and 4.30pm since Monday, with the last ones planned on Friday, November 1.
South Wales Police said that the disposal of war-time ordnance is not an unusual occurrence in the area.
This comes after the Royal Navy carried out explosions in Gower in June as part of an ongoing project that diving units had been involved with for a number of years.
