This is why a helicopter was flying over Heaton Park last night

The police helicopter was involved in a search for a man in Heaton Park last night.

The force chopper was up in the Prestwich area for several hours from around 6.35pm on Monday night.

A number of residents contacted the M.E.N to try and find out what was going on as the police activity appeared to centre on Heaton Park.

This morning a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said they had been assisting colleagues from Lancashire Constabulary in finding a man following a report of 'concern for welfare.

Thankfully he was located safe and well.

A spokesperson said: "At around 6.35pm on Monday 8 March 2021, police were called by Lancashire Constabulary to reports of concern for the welfare of a man who had travelled to Heaton Park, Manchester.

"Officers attended with the support of the police helicopter to conduct an area search.

"The man was safely located, and was transferred to Lancashire where he resides to receive the appropriate care and support."
