This is why a helicopter was 'chasing a hot air balloon' in Bristol this morning

A helicopter was spotted "chasing a hot air balloon" in the early hours of this morning (May 29).

The sight caused much confusion among Bristol residents, who took to social media to try and find out what exactly was happening.

One bemused onlooker tweeted: "Good morning from Bristol, where this morning it appears a helicopter is chasing a hot air balloon."

Despite some initial speculation that it was linked to last night (May 28),  the helicopter was actually filming for Sky News.

Climate scientist Jo House tweeted this morning that she was in the balloon to film a segment on climate change.

She said on Twitter: "A years worth of CO2 emissions from one person in the UK would fill a hot air ballon. With SkyNews talking climate change in a balloon."

Sky News Correspondent Thomas Moore added: "Up in the atmosphere with @DrJoHouse talking about global warming - see the film on Skynews in the near future."

According to Dr House, the segment will be broadcast on June 17.
