Opponents of a planned 800-home development in Wetherby are planning to bus their supporters into Leeds to protest the plans.
A “shuttle bus” has been arranged to take disgruntled residents into the city centre, in order to voice their opinions on the plans.
Leeds City Council’s city plans panel will meet next week to discuss an application for outline planning permission to build up to 800 homes, a primary school and a “food store” off Racecourse Approach in Wetherby, after earlier plans were put on hold back in March.
The application has already picked up numerous objections from locals and councillors, as many fear such a large development would put undue strain on local infrastructure.
A post on the “Better Wetherby” Facebook group is urging locals who are against the proposals to put their name down for a place on a “free shuttle bus” which will set off to Leeds on Thursday lunchtime.
The post states: “Further to previous posts, we can confirm that a free coach will be leaving the Cluster of Nuts Car Park (Hallfield Lane/Walton Road) at 12:15 on Thu. 29th.
“Please endeavour to attend the meeting at Leeds Civic Hall (scheduled start at 1:30pm), either via this coach or by your own means.
“If we have a large number of people attending in person, in addition to the 250 objections online, it really will enhance our chances of having this application rejected.”
The post urges those wanting to visit to contact Wetherby councillor and deputy leader of the Leeds Conservatives Alan Lamb to confirm their place on the coach.
The meeting takes place at 1.30pm on Thursday, August 29.
