This is where people have been caught with weapons in Swansea city centre in the last year

Offences involving knives and other weapons dealt with by the criminal justice system have risen by more than a third in Wales and England since 2015.

Figures published by the Ministry of Justice show there were 22,041 of these offences formally dealt with in the year ending March 2019.

This is 34% higher than in 2015 and is the highest rate since 2010, when the number was 23,667.

There have been a number of incidents in Swansea in recent months which have involved weapons.

Earlier in August a knife was recovered and drugs found after a stolen motorcyle crashed into another vehicle in West Cross, Swansea.

Also this month a man appeared in court for being in possession of a dangerous stun gun . He had claimed he thought it was a torch.

And on Sunday, June 19, Premier Stores in Vicarage Road, Morriston. was robbed by masked robbers armed with large knives to buy drugs.

We have had a look at figures on the police.uk website to see where people have been caught in possession of knives in Swansea city centre in the past year.

Here is a map showing just that:

According to the website, possession of weapon crimes were reported in 25 different areas around Swansea city centre, with 36 incidents in total between August, 2018, and July, 2019.

The street with the most reported offences was Somerset Place, with four. 

Over the same period, three offences were reported at Swansea City Bus Station.
