This is when you can next get a supermarket delivery in Bristol

Update: This story was published on Saturday, March 14. To find up-to-date information about supermarket deliveries you can rad the latest here

Most people seem to now be staying home as much as possible during the coronavirus outbreak, but you still need food.

And while images of empty shelves and completely full trolleys have been doing the rounds on social media, it seems likely more and more people will choose to do their weekly food shop online over the upcoming weeks and months.

The problem is supermarkets are already starting to struggle under the increased demand for delivery slots as fears of coronavirus infection have driven up demand for online grocery shopping.

And some stores within the Bristol area are currently unable to offer a home delivery for at least a week.

We've taken a look at the delivery options for five supermarkets that deliver to the Bristol area: Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, Sainsbury's and Waitrose.

This is when each of them next has availability for a home delivery.

Asda

The supermarket giant has no available delivery slots until Wednesday (March 18).

Around half-a-dozen slots on Wednesday have already been taken - but there are still quite a few left and all of Thursday is currently available.

The click-and-collect service however has much better availability, for those shoppers who are happy to get in their car and drive to the store, but don't want to risk getting out of the car and going into the shop.

Shoppers can collect their order from the store in Bedminster from tomorrow (Sunday). Longwell Green and Cribbs Causeway both have availability from Tuesday, while the store in Filton does not have any click-and-collect slots until Wednesday.

Tesco

Tesco does not appear to have not a single home delivery slot available until next Sunday, March 22.

And even then, there are only three more slots available. However come Monday (March 22) and for the rest of the week all delivery slots are currently available.

Tesco says it has put some "common-sense buying limits on certain products" so that everyone has access to essentials.

It is also encouraging customers to book their delivery slot further ahead as demand for home delivery increases.

Morrisons

(Reach Plc)

At Morrisons the situation is looking pretty similar to Tesco with no delivery slots available until next Saturday (March 21) and only the evening slots are left.

The supermarket has also introduced a maximum order number on selected products so we can make sure our customers still have access to essential products.

It has also asked that anyone self-isolating let Morrisons know so delivery drivers can take the necessary precautions when fulfilling the order.

This will include placing your order on your doorstep and contacting you via telephone to ensure it's received.

Sainsbury's

The next available home delivery slot for Sainsbury's is not until Thursday, March 19.

It looks like there is still plenty of toilet roll available, but the store has warned that due to increased demand it has limited availability across its antibacterial ranges.

Waitrose

(Reach Plc)

There is currently just one available delivery slot for Wednesday, March 18 - all other before then are completely fully boooked.

However there are still plenty available from Thursday, March 19.
