This is when the world's biggest Primark will open in the Midlands

The biggest branch of Primark in the world is due to open in the Midlands later this week.

The giant store will be in the heart of Birmingham, on the site of The Pavilions shopping centre in the High Street, which closed down nearly three years ago.

BirminghamLive reports that the new store will open on Thursday and that about 5,000 customers are expected on the first day alone.

These products are being recalled from Tesco, Asda, Lidl and Spar

The Pavilions shut on May 20, 2016, and work began on the site in early 2017 after a year of not much happening.

There were some delays with the store originally planned to open in spring last year.

In early February this year it was finally announced that the doors would definitely open on Thursday of this week. And now we know the exact opening time – 10am.

One guest who has already seen inside the store told BirminghamLive: "It's absolutely enormous - and they are expecting 5,000 people through the doors on the first day. That sounds almost Biblical!"

The new Primark will create more than 500 new jobs, while 430 colleagues will transfer from the existing New Street store which is set to close when the new store opens.

Primark Pavilions will have 160,100 sq ft of retail space and five floors of fashion as well as a new Disney-themed cafe among its food outlets.

A new concession to the city called Duck & Dry Express will be home to hair styling experts.

High Street recently also welcomed a new branch of Monki just before Christmas.

That store opened on Wednesday, December 19, with the first 100 people in the queue being given discount wristbands.

That was followed on March 29 this year with the unveiling of a new H&M store on New Street in the city centre.

That replaced the giant three-floor space formerly home to BHS which closed down in August 2016.
