This is what we know so far about a city shooting, fatal crash and house fire

The emergency services have dealt with a shooting, a fatal crash and a house fire so far this weekend.

A 19-year-old man is in hospital with "serious injuries" after being shot last night ( Saturday) near a park.

At around 11.30pm last night crews forced their way inside a blazing house in the Tuebrook area of the city as shocked neighbours looked on.

And in the early hours of this morning ( Sunday) a man in his 70s died after he was hit by a taxi in Kirkdale.

This is what we know so far about the three incidents.

The shooting

Police were called out to Crown Street Park on the edge of the city centre at around 8.30pm last night following reports of a shooting.

A man, 19, was shot after he was seen arguing with two masked men in the area, police said. He was taken to hospital where he was treated for "serious injuries."

The masked men are thought to have left the scene on a bicycle via Crown Street.

Today police carried out a finger tip search of Crown Street Park as the force searched for forensic evidence.

A tarpaulin covered a set of railings close to Queensland Street, where officers stood watch over the scene.

A large police cordon was in place while officers worked at the scene.

Last night , Detective Chief Inspector Matt Smith appealed for information about the shooting.

He said: "“The fact shots have been fired will understandably shock those in the local community and beyond.

"We believe that people close to Crown Street, Smithdown Lane, and Crown Street car park will have seen or heard something tonight and may have dashcam footage which could identify the offenders.

“Whether you have descriptions of those involved, saw anyone running off, or hold CCTV, dashcam or other footage, come forward as soon as possible and we will take action.

"We understand the worry that people sometimes have when talking to police so whether you come forward directly or anonymously to Crimestoppers, tell us what you know.”

The fire

Witnesses said a window blew out as flames swept through a house on Windsor Road at around 11.30pm last night.

Police, fire crews and the ambulance service all attended the incident as neighbours looked on in horror.

There are no reports of injuries at this stage.

Today the extent of the fire was visible. A first floor window had been removed and the top of the house appeared to have been gutted by the blaze.

Scorched debris could be seen in front of the house this morning.

Police were also at the scene earlier today.

Man dies after he was hit by car

A 50-year-old man from Salford was detained and arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a crash in Kirkdale.

The emergency services were called out to Westminster Road at around 1am today following reports of a crash.

Police established that a man had been hit by a blue Skoda Octavia. The victim, said to be in his 70s, died at the scene.

Locals described distressing scenes. A woman told the ECHO : "I was asleep at the time but I heard an almighty bang.

"It was awful, it is such a shame."

Up to six members of the public are thought to have stepped in to help at the scene, diverting traffic and calling 999.

Roads Policing Sergeant Martin Mayne said: "This was a tragic event in which a man sadly lost his life, and we're keen to gather as much evidence into the circumstances as possible.

"It is believed that at least six members of the public kindly assisted the victim after the collision, diverting traffic and calling for an ambulance.

"We would like to speak to any witnesses who have information or dashcam footage from the area at around 12.30am this morning, as it could be vital to the investigation.

“We believe that the car had travelled from Bootle and was heading towards the city centre when the collision occurred. Any information or footage is welcome, so please come forward.”
