This is what to expect if you are camping or caravanning in the UK this summer

Thousands of people are expected to dust the cobwebs off their tents and caravans this summer as they remain in the UK for their holidays.

The Camping and Caravanning Club has put in place a number of measures to protect customers.

The organisation says its campsites have now been awarded the 'We're good to go' industry standard mark, which means they have adhered to government and public health guidance and carried out Covid-19 risk assessments.

Here are some of the measures which have been put in place:

Contactless check-in

Holidaymakers will now be asked for their car registration when they book. You will be asked to stay in your car when you arrive at your chosen site and a staff member will show you to your pitch.

The balance for your holiday will be taken directly from your account.

Pitching

All pitches now have six-metre spacing and the number of people on club sites with facility blocks has been reduced so queues can be managed.

Communal areas

Unfortunately many well-used communal areas have been closed this year, including receptions and play areas. This also means gas will not be sold.

Washing-up areas will remain open to holidaymakers, however.

Cleaning

An 'enhanced cleaning regime' is being brought in across sites, which includes high contact areas and facility blocks.

Two deep cleans are planned every day across its sites and four additional cleans. Holidaymakers will be able to find out shower and toilet block cleaning times on signs outside the blocks.

Queueing

There will be a maximum number of people allowed in any of the facility blocks at any one time.

Floor markings will indicate the distance campers should wait away from each other and there will also be marked spacing between cubicles and washing up spaces.

People are being advised that waiting times may be longer than normal.
