Air raid sirens were heard across north Manchester on Wednesday evening (October 5). Residents from around Crumpsall, Prestwich and Whitefield shared their concern on social media about the noise.
However, it is has now been confirmed to the M.E.N to have been an electrical alarm fault from a building close to Prestwich, with no threat to the public. Many people were struggling to locate where the sound was coming from, which lasted for around 30 minutes.
People shared they had heard what sounded like an 'air raid siren' across the north of the city, posting videos as the alarm could be heard for miles. The alarm sounded for half an hour, from 8pm until around 8.30pm.
One user shared the video saying it sounded like an 'air raid siren'. There was some concern online for a short while before the alarm was switched off.
Others were tagging Greater Manchester Police asking what the noise was. The Manchester Evening News also received messages alerting us to the alarm on Wednesday night.
It has been confirmed that there was no incident, and that the alarm sounded due to a fault which took some time to be resolved.
