This is what the huge white tents in Bristol's Lloyds Amphitheatre are for

Bristol's Lloyds Amphitheatre is quite an interesting space.

To visitors, it might just look like a large unused area in front of an imposing horseshoe-shaped building - but people who live in Bristol will know that it's much more than that.

Aside from doubling up as a makeshift skate park, it also acts as a huge event space which plays host to large-scale events all-year round, particularly over the summer.

In the coming months it will welcome the Bristol Craft Beer Festival, which showcases the best breweries around as well as some top DJs and the Bristol Sounds series which this year includes Tom Misch, Bloc Party, Elbow and more.

The Lloyds Amphitheatre doubles up as a brilliant live music venue (SHOTAWAY.)

On top of that it will host both The Specials and New Order, organised by Colston Hall, and will play an important part in Bristol Harbour Festival as always.

Away from the music, it is also commonly used as a base for film crews before they head out to various locations across the city, most recently for Poldark and The Trial of Christine Keeler.

It's official - Bristol is the best city in the UK for eating out

What's there at the moment?

Passers-by over the past week will no doubt have noticed the two giant tents which have been put up in front of the Lloyds HQ.

Alongside an enormous structure which looks like a giant igloo big enough to house 1,000 Eskimos, there's a cube-shaped tent which is also fairly big.

With the Cricket World Cup fast approaching, some people have speculated that the two tents could be linked to that, while others have suggested it could be a futuristic filming location.

Others have said it could be a pop-up music venue - but sadly, it's not quite as exciting as that.

A Bristol City Council spokesperson said: "Apparently it’s a conference organised by an accountancy firm."

We're not sure when the conference is taking place or which firm is hosting it, but it looks like it's going to be a pretty big event.
