This is what the abandoned Camelot theme park looks like today

Back in the 1990s and noughties, Camelot theme park was packed with playing games and watching the jousting.

Daring teenagers would queue up to ride Nightmare , whilst those of a more nervous disposition would opt for Caterpillar Capers.

But now the s nothing more than a shell of itself as it lies abandoned and unloved.

Over the years, urban explorers have roamed around the eerie grounds being careful to escape tight security.

Many will remember the photos taken by 'Noodle' in 2015 , which showed the remains of the theme park.

But now, the ECHO can reveal, seven years after Camelot shut its doors for good, what the theme park looks like now.

One brave adventurer from Merseyside filmed himself taking a tour of the park - and parts of the video will make your skin crawl.

Appearing as a shadow of its former self, nature has completely overtaken the grounds, as vines trail up Camelot's medieval-themed buildings.

The jousting arena, which would have been filled with hundreds of children and parents seven years ago, is now covered in colourful graffiti.

Viewers also catch a glimpse of Nightmare roller coaster, once considered the star attraction of the theme park.

The footage becomes creepier as grey skies roll in and shadows haunt Camelot's buildings.

But there's hope for the former favourite destination of families across the North West - or for the land it stands on, at least.

The theme park  at around £793m, making it a lucrative opportunity for developers.

Several planning applications for housing estates have been submitted and subsequently rejected by Chorley Council, the most recent in March 2018.
