This is what the A470 near Pen y fan looked like today

This is what Pen y Fan looked like on Saturday after hundreds of people gathered to make the most of the Bank Holiday weather.

The pictures show a huge number of cars on the A470 parked on grass verges near Storey Arms, which people on the scene said stretched for a mile.

It's not the first time hundreds have flocked to the area during a sunny spell.

It was a similar scene over the Easter weekend - so many people climbed the mountain on Good Friday that queues could be seen visible from the top .

But there have been issues with parking at the base of the mountain in the past and police consistently warn people not to park there.

Families who flooded the  Brecon Beacons  on a Saturday afternoon in January 2016 to make the most of the crisp winter weather and a couple of inches of snow returned to their cars to find an unwelcome surprise.

More than 100 drivers were hit with parking fines by police at the time. Police said the volume of cars parked while people went sledging was causing big problems in the area.

Over the unusually bright and warm Easter weekend, there were more than two miles of parked cars on the side the A470 as people made the most of the weather to climb Pen y Fan.

People even formed orderly queues to get the classic iconic shot at the top of the mountain.
