Firefighters are continuing to tackle a moorland fire which is causing large plumes of smoke to drift across Manchester.
The fire broke out at Rakes Moss on the A628 Crowden to Glossop through the Woodhead Pass just after 1pm today.
It is causing a large plume of smoke to drift into surrounding areas, particularly into Tameside.
Residents in Stalybridge are being asked to keep their windows and doors shut.
Several people have also reported spotting large plumes of smoke in other parts of our region on Twitter, including in south Manchester, east Manchester and the city centre.
One Twitter user said there a was 'real strong smell of smoke' in the city centre.
Another said there was 'thick smoke hanging in the air' over Gorton and Longsight.
Earlier today, Glossop Fire Station shared a video of a helicopter dumping water on the blaze.
In a tweet, the fire service said they were dealing with "multiple seats of fire".
The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage.
A statement tweeted by Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service earlier today said: "Firefighters are currently on the scene at a moorland fire at Rakes Moss on the A628 Crowden to Glossop.
"Residents in the Stalybridge area are asked to keep their windows and doors closed due to smoke.
"Please avoid the area, adhering to Covid19 guidance."
A tweet posted by the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service earlier said the incident was causing a 'large amount of smoke' in Stalybridge.
It is the second moorland fire to have broken out this week.
Firefighters dealt with another blaze near to Brushes Clough Reservoir on Monday.
The fire measured three to four hectares.
