This is what residents in The Meadows want to see brought to the area

Whether it be a new restaurant, store, or pub, residents in The Meadows have said they would like to see something that makes the area "stand out" in Nottingham.

While only around a 30-minute-walk from the city centre, The Meadows is mainly residential, with streets filled with Victorian and Edwardian terraced houses and council houses from the 1970s.

A number of new-build houses have also recently sprung up, near to the tram tracks on Queens Walk.

The Meadows is home to churches, a Post Office, shops, a health centre, a community centre, a library, gym and swimming pool as well as the Queens Drive Recreation Ground and Memorial Gardens at Victoria Embankment.

But what else do residents what to see?

Having recently just move to the area, reporter Ben Reid wanted to ask residents what they wanted to see pop up in the future.

People spoke fondly of the close community that still exists among residents in the area and enjoyed the fact they were so close to the Embankment and River Trent for walks and fresh air.

Alan Gregory, 75, has lived in The Meadows all his life and said he would welcome a new restaurant in the area.

"I'm getting older and less likely to walk into town now. If there was a nice restaurant in the area I would go with my wife. We have a few takeaways here but nothing like a sit down place really.

"I think it's a great place to live. Where I am is nice and quiet. You hear of issues here and there but nothing other places don't have."

Jaime Preston, a 23-year-old hairdresser added: "I think a nice store would help the area. I know the city centre isn't far away but I still think it would do well because a lot of people live here.

"A clothes and shoes store would be great and would stand out. That's what the area needs, it's fine but needs to stand out more."

The Meadows is home to pubs the Poet's Corner and Riverway, but one resident has said another pub would welcome.

Anton Harris, 45, of The Meadows, added: "I think another pub would be good. There's Poet's Corner and Riverway but another one would be nice.

"The community centre has just had a revamp. That's a good option for people to host events out of. There's a real community here which I like. People want to look for each other."
