The negative impact that Trump’s government shutdown has had on federal workers till now is no secret. As several workers remained furloughed (some who are working without pay and some who are temporarily not working), their futures hang in the balance as Trump keeps threatening them with permanent firings, especially Democratic leaning individuals or individuals who belong to Blue states.
America is an expensive country, and to sustain oneself there, one requires a regular flow of income. But amidst the government shutdown, which has affected thousands of workers, people are having to seek alternate modes of income to make ends meet. Those who are still expected to go to work are working double shifts to earn some money, as they are not getting paid at their regular jobs. The same has caused widespread resentment and distress. On social media, a video highlighting this aspect is circulating, where a single father is working with DoorDash to provide for his child’s education. The man, visibly distressed, appears on a news segment of Saturday Mornings with CBS, and speaks about his current circumstances, which are “difficult” and filled with “tension” and heaviness.
Everyone who watched the clip of the man narrating his plight on television empathised with him. They even blamed Trump and his administration for targeting federal workers in an effort to villainise and malign Democrats. One person on X (formerly Twitter), commented under a video of the man and said:
“This is what MAGA voted for.”
Another person highlighted a similar aspect and wrote:
“Trump is only here to do everything he can to stay in power line the pockets of his family and friends. I did not vote for this.”
Many people expressed similar feelings as they criticised the current Trump administration. However, numerous individuals unwaveringly supported President Trump and his attempts to fire federal workers. It makes you wonder how someone could find pleasure in another person’s suffering. I guess it takes a certain level of dedication to the MAGA movement to feel that way.
