This is what happened at the Forest Recreation Ground after two parks are closed

Concerns were raised that Forest Recreation Ground would be flooded with people after the closure of two Nottingham parks.

But this was not the case on Wednesday (March 31) as most people were in small groups and kept their social distance.

A number of police officers and community protection officers walked around the large open space to ensure that people were not breaking Covid guidelines.

They were also confiscating alcohol and putting the bottles and cans into brown bins distributed across the green space.

Community protection officers working for Nottingham City Council said around 1,000 people were at the Forest Recreation Ground this afternoon and early evening.

They said this was a major decrease from Tuesday (March 30) when it is believed there was triple that amount with hardly a spot of spare grass in sight.

One council officer said it looked "like Ibiza" on Tuesday.

CPOs will be there until midnight, with officers on call throughout the evening to ensure people remain safe.

This is in response to what happened at the Arboretum where hundreds of people staged a huge party on Monday, March 29.

This included dancing in large groups, fighting, and climbing trees.

Both the Arboretum and Lenton Recreation Ground have been closed as a result.
