This is what could replace the Iceland store on Kirkstall Road

Plans have been unveiled which reveal blueprints for the former Iceland on Kirkstall Road.

The frozen food store closed its doors on Saturday, September 14 after a renewal on the lease for the premises was declined by the landlord.

The decision was taken following the opening of The Food Warehouse at Kirkstall Shopping Park, just a mile up the road.

Although the unit between Asda and Greggs remains empty, outline plans show that it could soon be transformed into a gym.

Documents reveal that the changes could be made relatively quickly, with no major structural changes to the building needed.

The 839 square metre unit would see gym equipment installed, with the proposed developers aiming for an 'immediate reoccupation' of the former Iceland store.

"The conversion will lead to the opening of the first gym within Kirkstall Road Local Centre, thereby enhancing the vitality and viability of Kirkstall’s offer," say the developers.

"The proposal has no unacceptable impacts on the appearance, character or amenity of the area.

"It will ensure the immediate reoccupation of a vacant unit and will prevent a potential long term vacancy."
