This Is Us star Chrissy Metz on how she lost seven stone in five months

This Is Us star Chrissy Metz has revealed how she managed to lose an impressive seven stone by following just two simple steps. Both Chrissy and her character in the award winning series have struggled with their weight since childhood.

Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, Chrissy said that the character of Kate immediately resonated with her, saying: "Here was this woman who was actually dealing with weight. Not like, 'Oh my God, I gained a pound'. She was a real woman who was really struggling, and all I could think was, 'Oh my God, I'm Kate.'"

Chrissy, whose first job was in a local Florida McDonald's, describes herself as having been a "chubbier kid" and even joined Weight Watchers as an 11-year-old child. She explained: "My friends could eat whatever they wanted to, but I knew that as a kid if I ate certain things I would totally gain weight. I had to be really cognisant of what I ate."

In her memoir, Chrissy wrote about her difficult relationship with her stepfather, who would hold regular weigh ins at home. She wrote: "My body seemed to offend him, but he couldn't help but stare, especially when I was eating. He joked about putting a lock on the refrigerator."

However, now, after years of yo-yo dieting, she has learnt to love her body and is continuing her weight loss journey at her own, sustainable pace.

How Chrissy Metz lost seven stone

Though Chrissy admits she doesn't regularly weigh herself, a clause in her This Is Us contract meant she had to lose weight for Kate's story in the hit drama. Telling TVLine, she said: "That was a win-win for me, because it's one thing to try to do it on your own. But as human beings, it's an ego thing: We’re more likely to do something for someone else."

Chrissy told People magazine in 2017 that she has found success with two simple steps to lose seven stone in five months. She explained: "All I did was eat a 2,000-calorie diet and walk 20 minutes a day."

The award winning performer said that whether she loses weight or not it is: "Purely a choice of mine for health. Not because I think that plus size, curvy, voluptuous, big bodies aren't attractive—because I think they're awesome and sexy."
