The This Is Us cast has shared their shock and devastation following the death of Jas Waters, one of the show’s writers, at the age of 39.

Waters’ death was confirmed by the writing’s team Twitter account on Wednesday night, in a post which read: “The entire #ThisIsUs family was devastated to learn of Jas Waters passing. In our time together, Jas left her mark on us and ALL over the show.

“She was a brilliant storyteller and a force of nature. We send our deepest sympathies to her loved ones. She was one of us. RIP.”

Shortly after the devastating news was announced, This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman posted a tribute to Waters.

“This news took my breath away,” he wrote. “Jas was absolutely brilliant and had so many stories still to tell. She made an indelible mark on our show and my heart breaks for her loved ones.”

Cast members including Mandy Moore, Chrissy Metz and Susan Kelechi Watson also shared their condolences online.

Watson tweeted: "Incredibly shocked and saddened to have just receive this news. Blessed Light, fly with the angels."

Waters contributed to at least 18 episodes of the hit US drama, according to IMDb.

Her other writing credits include the Taraji P. Henson film What Men Want and Showtime’s comedy-drama Kidding.
