This is Tomorrow Festival adds Blossoms, Royal Blood and Fontaines D.C to line-up

The Friday night line-up for Newcastle's This is Tomorrow festival has now been announced and it adds a whole new tone to the summer weekender.

Organisers of the outdoor event, which will be back at Exhibition Park in May, revealed that Royal Blood Blossoms and Fontaines D.C will headline the opening Friday night programme.

The addition of rock, punk and indie-pop to the festival bag is set to attract a wider than ever range of music fans to the May 22-24 festival which has already scored a coup with Glasgow's Gerry Cinnamon due to head-up Saturday's night programme and local Hypersonic Missiles star Sam Fender wrapping up the event on the Sunday.

The Kooks and North East singer-songwriter Nadine Shah are also already confirmed.

SSD Concerts announced the latest news on Tuesday and tickets for Friday's line-up are set to go on sale this coming Friday.

The night will welcome rock duo Royal Blood who followed up their self-titled 2014 album with 2017's How Did We Get So Dark? - to a similar reaction - with hits such as Come On Over, Little Monster and I Only Lie When I Love You winning them an army of fans.

Meanwhile, Stockport indie pop band Blossoms - whose hits range from Charlemagne to the recent Your Girlfriend - will be bringing their exuberant style to bear upon the main stage on the same night and Irish post-punk sensations Fontaines D.C, whose debut album Dogrel topped 2019's album of the year list, will be delivering their 'post-punk grit' with poetic lyrics about their home city of Dublin.

Festival organiser Steve Davis said: "We feel Royal Blood are another huge addition to what is rapidly becoming the stand-out outdoor festival line-up of the year for new music.

"Along with Blossoms and Fontaines D.C, This is Tomorrow Festival promises to be the live event of the summer.”

Other acts named for Friday include The Lathums, Inhaler and The Snuts plus local artists Bare Roots and Picnic.

Day tickets for the Friday leg of the Newcastle festival, costing £49, will go on sale at 9am on Friday, January 31. Weekend tickets are already on sale. To book, see here.
