This is Tommy Doyle, the deadball specialist and midfield dynamo set to test his Man City schooling at Cardiff City

Cardiff City have confirmed the signing of Manchester City youngster Tommy Doyle.

The midfielder has arrived in the capital on loan until the end of the season, after prematurely ending a frustrating spell with German side Hamburg.

It's Cardiff's second signing of the window, with Doyle following on from Leeds United starlet Cody Drameh.

So, what can Cardiff fans expect to see from the new man?

We spoke to Joe Bray, Manchester City writer at the MEN , to get the full lowdown

Q. What sort of player are Cardiff getting?

Joe Bray : I've seen him play quite a lot for the youth team, and he's been one of my favourite players to watch. He's just been very composed and is always trying to get forward.

He's got a good eye for a pass, good at free-kicks and has a decent shot on him. He does score a few goals, and he was the captain when they won the Youth Cup.

I spoke to him last year, and he was saying how much he enjoys taking on the responsibility of being a captain. So, he's got a really good head on his shoulders.

Everyone's probably aware of his connections to two City legends, both of his granddads, Glyn Pardoe and Mike Doyle, are genuine legends around these parts. So he really is City through and through.

He definitely takes all that into his game.

I was actually a little surprised it didn't work out in Germany, but I do think the Championship will be a good level for him. I'm quite curious to see how he does. If he gets a good run of games, you'd hope he would really, really kick on.

Q. Why didn't it work out in Germany?

JB : I don't really know to be honest. I was a little surprised. I can only guess that they wanted to ease him in and he didn't really want that.

I don't really have an answer for that. But fair play to him to go to them and saying that he wanted to play football.

Q. Would he be a good fit for Cardiff?

JB : I'll be honest, I don't know too much about how Cardiff play nowadays, but if they get it down and look to play a style of football that feeds the wingers then I think he'll be all right.

From setpieces, he'll have a shot or put crosses in. He'll be good at that.

But he keeps possession in the way that most young City players have to do. It's about short passes and that sort of thing.

I do think he's good enough to fit in at Championship level if he's given a chance.

Q. What's the long-term plan for him? Does he realistically have a future at the Etihad?

JB : I think of all the players coming through he's one of those with more of a chance, but that doesn't guarantee anything.

I think one of the reasons they sent him out on loan was that he'd completely outgrown youth football and so he needed first-team experience.

I would imagine that if he's going to Cardiff, he's going there to play. City will likely see what happens after that.

He's not there yet, but he's certainly one of those ear-marked for first-team potential.

Q. Is there anything in particular that's made Cardiff an attractive destination?

JB : I would imagine that there's some sort of guarantee that he'll be playing regularly because that's what he needs right now.

But City don't just send out players to anyone.

They do choose their loans quite carefully. It probably reflects well on Cardiff that they've got him.

I really want him to do well. He's a nice lad and a very good footballer and it would be good to see him get a run of games.

Q. Cardiff are in the middle of a relegation fight at the moment - could he cope with that pressure?

JB : I would say so. Whenever I've heard him speak he's always speaking beyond his years and he's very mature. He takes everything seriously, so I wouldn't worry about that at all.

Any weaknesses?

I suppose the main thing is that he's never really been tested physically because he's just never really had that run of games at senior level.

So I don't really know what he'd be like in that situation. But the signs from what he's shown whenever he's played at other levels suggest he could still do well.
