This is the wreckage of a car which had a suspected drink driver at the wheel who ended up in hospital

A man who was hospitalised after crashing his car on a busy road late last night was reported for allegedly driving having consumed "excessive alcohol".

The incident took place in Fabian Way just after 10.30pm on Wednesday, May 5, and involved one vehicle driven by a man who had to be taken to hospital to receive treatment for his injuries. An image of his vehicle shared by South Wales Police showed significant damage, with the driver side front wheel buckled and scratches and dents visible.

A statement from the force explained how a preliminary breath test had been carried out, but that investigations into the incident were still ongoing.

A spokeswoman for the police said: "South Wales Police were called to a single vehicle collision on Fabian Way at 22.36 last night, Wednesday, May 5.

"The driver of the vehicle, a 27-year-old man, was taken to Morriston Hospital to receive treatment for minor injuries.

"The driver was reported for driving with excessive alcohol following a preliminary breath test. Further evidential tests were undertaken whilst he was hospital. Investigations are still ongoing."
