This is the smiling convict on the run after court escape

Police are appealing for help to find a man who has fled Bristol Crown Court after being sentenced.

Damon Jefferies, 32, of Bedminster Down, had just been handed a six-month jail term when he leapt from the dock of Court Nine at about 4pm today (June 12).

Our court reporter Geoff Bennett said: “He left the courtroom like a bomb. He was pursued by the security guard while the clerk phoned down to the front door security.

“He was so quick getting down the stairs from the fourth floor to the ground floor that he managed to get down the stairs and get out.”

Jefferies fled after being given a jail term for breaching the terms of a suspended prison sentence, which he received after admitting controlling behaviour in a relationship.

Jefferies is described as a white man, about 5ft 10ins tall. He has short brown hair and blue eyes.

He has a tattoo on his left arm of a bulldog and one of a woman on his right arm.

If you see him, do not approach him but call 999 immediately. If you have any other information which could help police locate him, ring 101, quoting reference 727 of 12 June.
