This is the reason why we run the Bristol Gold Star Awards

Now in their 25th year, the Bristol Gold Star Awards are back for 2019 and still successfully running to recognise those whose selfless nature has meant that they are a crucial member of the community both locally and in wider areas.

Unsung heroes rarely receive the appreciation that they deserve but these awards work to challenge this, put these heroes into the spotlight, recognise their constant dedication and most importantly, thank them for their extraordinary achievements.

This week, the newest award winner to be revealed is:

The 'Gold Star Achiever' award winner - Janey Little

In September, it was revealed that Janey Little from Clevedon officially had the best GCSE marks in the UK after a re-mark.

At just 16, she achieved a set of 13 grade 9s which is the highest possible grade. There were just 10 other pupils across the country who achieved 12 grade 9s.

In addition to her studies and dedicated time to after-school clubs and societies, Janey has personally written no less than four novels and is now working on a fifth non-fiction book.

A future goal for Janey is to study Philosophy, Politics and Economics at the University of Oxford, which she hopes will springboard her in to an expansive career in politics.

The Gold Star Awards are comprised of 12 award titles, each with inspirational and deserving winners to their name. A public poll will be made live on 11 November and will give the public the chance to vote for who will be crowned the overall ‘Gold Star Hero’ on the evening of 10 December.

The fact that the overall ‘Gold Star Hero’ title is decided based on a public vote makes this award extra special and it is crucial to the decision process. The poll will officially open on 11 November and will close on 25 November, giving you two weeks to cast your vote.
