This is the reason there are long queues on the M60 in Stockport this morning

This huge pothole is causing long delays on the M60 this morning.

A lane has been closed near to junction one for Stockport Pyramid while road crews work to fill in the hole.

It's led to six miles queues back to junction 24 and 35 minute delays.

It's not clear if last night's torrential rain caused the hole.

There are six mile queues on the M60 (Highways England)

Highways England tweeted: "BetweenJ1 #Pyramid #TravisBrow and #J2 #CheadleHeath #M60 there is a lane 1 closure set for a defect to the road surface.

"Traffic Officers are on scene and maintenance crews on the way to fix.

"Maintenance crews aim to get this fixed and reopened within the hour. Lane 1 will remain closed for safety in the mean time. Please allow additional time for your journey as congestion is building J1 towards J2.

"There are 35 minute delays on the approach to this M609 incident (above usual journey times) spanning 6 miles back to J24.
