This is the most dangerous time of day to be on Leeds roads

Fridays between 4pm and 5pm in October are the most dangerous times to be on Leeds roads.

That's according to a study of 3,500 collisions in the city, in 2016 and 2017, in which a driver, passenger, pedestrian or other party was hurt or killed.

Of these incidents, 340 happened in October which is the equivalent of 38 a week.

The second most dangerous month was November followed by July, according to police figures.

June was the safest month when 271 casualty-causing accidents took place – the equivalent of 32 per week.

The study also examined the time of day – and day – when accidents with injuries were most likely to occur.

More than one in four (999) took place around the time of the evening rush hour, between 4pm and 7pm.

Of those, 354 were between 4pm and 5pm, 348 were between 5pm and 6pm, and 297 were between 6pm and 7pm.

Collisions were significantly less common on Sundays, and Monday was the safest weekday.

Friday (with 601 incidents) was the most common day for someone to be hurt or killed on the roads.

Wednesday (580) was next, followed by Thursday (575), Tuesday (514), Monday (503) and Saturday (470).

There were just 394 casualty-causing collisions on Sundays.

The data is published by the Department for Transport and based on official police records.

Of the 3,637 collisions in Leeds in the database, 20 resulted in at least one person being killed.

A further 593 resulted in serious injury.

Across Great Britain as a whole, there were 266,603 casualty-causing accidents in 2016 and 2017.

November was the most dangerous month, accounting for 24,699, while Friday (43,824) was the most dangerous day of the week.
