Mid Ulster is the happiest place in Northern Ireland, according to the latest government measure of our wellbeing.

People in the area gave the highest score when asked to rate how happy they were the previous day, figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show.

In 2019/20, people gave a rating of 8.1 out of 10, up from 7.8 the year before.

Causeway Coast and Glens and Fermanagh and Omagh followed with the second and third highest scores in our area, at 8.0 and 7.9 out of 10, respectively.

Belfast saw the lowest level of happiness in Northern Ireland. People living there gave a score of 7.4, slightly up from 7.3 the year before.

Lisburn and Castlereagh followed with a score of 7.5, down from 7.9, while in Antrim and Newtownabbey, Ards and North Down and Mid and East Antrim it was 7.6 out of 10.

The government’s National Well-being Measures, which are based on a survey of 139,690 participants across the UK, showed Mid Ulster is also the area in Northern Ireland with the highest levels of life satisfaction, at 8.2 out of 10.

Belfast was also the place where people were least satisfied with their lives, with a score of 7.6, while Derry City and Strabane was the place with the highest levels of anxiety in the country, with people giving a score of 3.4.

Mid Ulster was also the place with the lowest levels of anxiety, at 2.4 out of 10.
