This is the dad and engineer, 33, who died in 'tragic accident' involving lift at Royal Oldham Hospital

Tributes have been paid to an engineer and dad who died following a 'tragic accident' involving a lift at Royal Oldham Hospital.

Sandy Noble tragically passed away after suffering serious injuries during the incident on Monday (February 22).

The 33-year-old maintenance engineer was carrying out work on the lift at the hospital as a contractor when emergency services were called just before 9.30am.

Mr Noble, who leaves behind a young son, Jayden, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

His loved ones have now paid a heartfelt tribute to him.

Carley Holden, his partner, said he was completely loved by his family.

"Jayden completely idolised him. He will be forever in our hearts and in his son a piece of him will always live on," she said.

The Scarborough man also leaves behind mother Carol Biggins, stepdad Michael Biggins, brother David Noble and 'all of his loving aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends'.

Mr Noble's mum Carol paid tribute to her son with a poem.

It read: "I closed my eyes for but a moment and suddenly a man stood where a boy used to be.

"I may not carry you in my arms, but I will always carry you in my heart.

"You have given me so many reasons to be proud of the man you have become, but the proudest moment for me is telling others that you are my son.

"Always and forever."

An inquest into Mr Noble's death will be opened at Rochdale Coroners' Court on March 3, a spokeswoman confirmed.

An investigation led by Greater Manchester Police and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is underway.

David Jago, chief officer for The Royal Oldham Hospital, said: "Officers from the fire service and Greater Manchester Police are currently on site at The Royal Oldham Hospital following a tragic accident this morning involving one of our lifts that an maintenance engineer contractor was working on.

"Sadly, we can confirm that the engineer suffered serious injuries and has sadly died."

In a statement, GMP said: "Officers were called by colleagues from NWAS just before 9.30am this morning (22 February 2021) to a report of a sudden death at Royal Oldham Hospital in Oldham.

"Emergency services attended and a male suffered serious injuries and was sadly pronounced dead.

"Officers are at the scene and the Health and Safety Executive have been notified."

A HSE spokesman said: "We were informed this morning of an incident at the hospital.

"HSE Inspectors are on site supporting the police, who are leading the investigation."

Fire crews also attended at the incident.

A spokesperson from the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: "Just after 9am on Monday 22 February one fire engine from Gorton fire station and the technical rescue unit from Ashton fire station were called to an incident at Royal Oldham Hospital."
